FaxFacts and the March of Dimes
Medical Information via Fax Reduce Costs of Transcontinental
faxing!
PRESS RELEASE
Wheaton, IL -- August 28, 1996 -- In a unique
combination of technology and healthcare, the March of Dimes Birth
Defects Foundation uses Copia International's FaxFacts
system to provide fax access to medical information on over two
thousand birth defects. As the definitive source on birth defects
and syndromes, the March of Dimes' staff knows that immediate access
to critical medical data results in more effective treatments and
an improving quality of life.
Using FaxFacts, The March of Dimes Birth Defects
Foundation makes over 3200 documents available immediately to anyone.
More than one hundred March of Dimes chapters in the United States
maintain catalogs of the Fax-on-Demand documents and can download
them immediately in response to research or medical requests.
The primary advantage of FaxFacts Fax-on-Demand
system from a practical standpoint is time saved, according to Beth
Gaffney of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation. "Individuals
can access this information through their fax machine instead of
having to go through us -- the middle person," reports Ms.
Gaffney. Time is critical in medical situations. Patients, doctors,
and even family members can quickly access important information
in order to make informed decisions on treatment. The on-line information
is easily updated, keeping data current.
The March of Dimes' FaxFacts system is set up
for one-call faxing. The caller dials 914-997-4410 from a fax machine.
In response to a voice prompt, the caller enters a four digit document
number using the telephone keypad. Up to five documents can be requested
on one call. When prompted, the caller hangs up the fax phone and
pushes the Receive button on the fax machine to start the
transmission. Copia's one-call technology keeps phone costs down
for the company, making fax-on-demand economically feasible. For
the recipient, one-call faxing insures confidentiality by dispensing
the fax to the same fax machine the call is made from.
Copia is proud of the role its technology can play in improving
lives. In addition to the March of Dimes, Copia also provides FaxFacts
Fax-on-Demand to the National Cancer Institute for "Cancer
Fax," (301-402-5874) fax documents describing treatment guidelines
for cancer diagnoses. Once again, all you need is a fax machine.
