First, prepare the configuration file for the conversions you wish to automate:

Open FAXFACTS.CFG in COPIAEDIT or Notepad
Add or modify a $convert_types command, for example:

     $convert_types pdf doc

Record the types you have selected, which also need to be configured in FFEXTERN

Then, configure FFEXTERN:

Start the FFEXTERN (Document Converter) program
If set to Active, click the Stop button while you perform configuration
Select Pre-Processing, click the '+' icon, and select to add a new FXCVRT pre-process operation
Set the checkboxes for the conversions you require, with a queue number of 0, and enable the pre-process operation.
The above steps will cause FFEXTERN to scan the PREPROC folder for FS files when you press Start
If not already enabled, run STARTCOPIA and enable automatic startup for FFEXTERN.
You should test the setup by sending some faxes which specify documents of the types you have selected for conversion.
Advanced setup

Normally, the only reason to select a non-zero queue number is to allow 'manual' splitting of the conversion load over multiple machines. In this case the $convert_types configuration command cannot be used and an explicit $fax_pre-process command with a specific non-zero queue number is needed. You can then set up one or more FFEXTERN instances to process each queue. Again each instance must have the capability to process all the document types that may occur together in an FS file.
