Active Directory Integration

Introduction

CopiaFacts has a built-in interface to access Active Directory information. This can be used to control and configure the processing of faxes and e-mails for users who have records in AD.  The machines running CopiaFacts applications which need AD access (currently COPIAFACTS and CFGATEWAY) must run CopiaFacts applications in domain account.  We also always recommend that the account used should be specific to CopiaFacts and not the account of a named user.

There are four principal ways of using the Active Directory information:

Inbound FaxesThe dialed fax number, or a specified substring of it, can be used to find automatically an AD user with a matching fax/DNIS number. This determines whether or not to accept the received fax, and makes AD properties for the user available as CopiaFacts variables. See Inbound Faxes in the AD Automatic Lookup topic for more information.
Inbound E-MailsThe sender e-mail address can be used to find automatically an AD User with a matching e-mail address. This determines whether to accept the received e-mail, and makes AD properties for the user available as CopiaFacts variables. See Inbound E-Mail in the AD Automatic Lookup topic for more information.
Client Faxes & E-MailsThe login name of an FFCLIENT user can  be used to find automatically an AD User with a matching login name.  This makes AD properties for the user available as CopiaFacts variables, for example to place on a cover sheet. See FFCLIENT in the AD Automatic Lookup topic for more information.
ScriptingAD User data can be found and accessed as CopiaFacts variables in both standard and custom CopiaFacts scripts to control and customize the processing of transactions.  See the AD in Scripting topic for more information.

The first three of the above features require little more configuration than a single configuration command to initiate a connection to Active directory, and perhaps a command to configure for local DNIS formats. Scripting provides access to your configurable set of AD user properties as standard CopiaFacts variables. Currently, AD access using the features described in this topic is supported only for user properties.

For full access to all parts of AD and for sites with very large AD databases, CopiaFacts sample scripts are available which query AD using the standard CopiaFacts database support.

The Active Directory integration features are documented in the following subtopics:
