CopiaFacts™ Reference Manual

Workstation Client

FFCLIENT

The CopiaFacts Workstation Client handles sending and receipt of faxes from and to the desktop.

The CopiaFacts client is included with every component of the CopiaFacts suite of business communication solutions. Designed to work with Fax, Voice and E-Mail destinations, it provides a single point of access to features of CopiaFacts.  The program runs on all current Windows platforms and provides access to a wide variety of address books, including Outlook contacts and address books, GoldMine contacts, LDAP, and Active Directory Services. Address information can also come from any data source that allows ADO or OLE DB/ODBC access. This includes Microsoft Access, SQL Server, Oracle, Excel, xBase, and FoxPro databases. Selection criteria can be applied to address books to select recipients for a broadcast as well. Features include:

•Caching of recent recipients for quick selection

•Additional user data information that may be included on the cover sheet including office, department, voice phone, e-mail address, etc.

•Easy-to-use delayed transmission settings

•Built-in broadcast capability

•Enhanced file save features for storing fax images on disk or in the fax-on-demand document catalog

•Easy-to-use document attachment capabilities

•Integration with the cover sheet design process

•Integrated support for viewing received faxes

•Integration with fax and e-mail status viewer

•Simple overall operation using an Outlook type interface

This program is documented separately in the Quick Reference section where there are also examples of how to perform basic operations with FFCLIENT.

The print driver uses the FFPAGENT printer agent utility to call an existing or new instance of FFCLIENT.

The FFCLIENT faxing dialog can also be opened by right-clicking a PDF document in Windows Explorer and selecting "Fax this Document using CopiaFacts..". This is implemented in a Windows shell extension named CF9CLIENT.DLL:

Currently this feature is supported only when a single PDF file is selected in Windows Explorer.  In addition the shell extension is only installed on 64-bit operating systems.  If Windows Explorer (or an Explorer replacement which supports shell extensions) is running at installation or uninstallation of CF9CLIENT64.DLL, a reboot will be required on completion of the CopiaFacts Client installer operation.

eDocPrintPro

As an alternative to FFCLIENT, we have also tested, and recommend, the free PDF printer driver eDocPrintPro from XKEY GmbH.  This driver can be used to print any document (other than a PDF) to PDF, when configured as an FFCLIENT alternative. The resulting file will be sent for processing in the same way as a TIF file, and will be converted using the method selected in the FFEXTERN conversion options dialog.

Use only for Fax

Some sites have requested that sending e-mail from FFCLIENT should be disallowed. You can do this by adding a variable definition in FAXFACTS.CFG with a name of No_FFCLIENT_Email and a non-empty value.
