Symptoms:
PDF or Office files are not converted for fax transmission
Actions:
If a file fails to convert, an error outcome code 68 normally results on the fax transmission attempt, because the TIF file to be sent has not been created.
Check first, for Office documents, that the Office application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is installed and working. For PDF conversion to faxable TIF, the default settings do not require Actobat to be installed.
A conversion trace is almost always required to diagnose the problem. Run FFTRACE and ensure that FFEXTERN, CVSINGLE, and CF9IMAGE are enabled (or added) in the File/Applications dialog with all checkboxes enabled.
The trace file containing details of the conversion attempt may be found in one of several places, depending on how you have configured the Pre-Process conversion options in FFEXTERN:
•For conversions in FFEXTERN running on the desktop, the file will be NN.FTx where NN is the COPIAFACTS nodename on the same machine.
•For on-the-fly conversions in COPIAFACTS running on the desktop (for small documents only) the file will also be NN.FTx
•For conversions in FFEXTERN running as a service, the file will be FFEXTERN_DD.FTx where DD is the FFEXTERN Document Converter nodename.
•For on-the-fly conversions in COPIAFACTS running as a service (for small documents only) the file will be COPIAFACTS_NN.FTx where NN is the COPIAFACTS nodename.
The files will be found either in the FAXFACTS folder, or the folder specified by the FFTRC envrironment variable (or $environment command) if present.
When sending the trace file to COPIA please also send the original document file to Copia with it, unless it is confidential. For email-to-fax operations, the file is normally found in the CALLBACK\TEMP folder, with a filename corresponding to the SMTP_MSGBASE variable value in the FS file for the transmission. If you do not have the TEMP file, we can also extract it from the BAK file in the C:\CopiaSMTPSaveMessages folder.
